Maxine’s interest in the world of holistic health and complementary therapy began in her early 20’s when she was introduced to Louise L. Hay, “You can Heal your Life’. At the time, she was searching to find meaning to her own life and asking questions like, why was she here and wondered, whether, she had something positive to contribute.
The more she read, the more fascinated she became with the concept that healing could be an internal process with our thoughts, emotions and belief systems playing a major role in why we became ill or experienced ‘dis-ease’ in the first place. For Maxine, this was the beginning of a whole new world; a new way of thinking and living that provided her with the opportunity to look at her life from another perspective. The desire to work as a therapist was born during this period; however, the reality was difficult to conceive. Furthermore, sport and fitness were her first love and she pursued careers that allowed her to do what she enjoyed. These included roles like the Summer Holiday Programmes Manager, Youth Worker, Sports Coach, Aerobics and Fitness Instructor and PE Teacher.
Her interest for complementary therapies was re-ignited whilst in her role as the Head of PE in a South-east London school. Whilst she was happy and comfortable, she was aware that there were still other interests she wanted to pursue. The seed of working as complementary therapist that had been planted in her twenties, had now begun to blossom fruit together with a more recent interest in energy and how it worked to bring people together or indeed, repel.
A chance meeting in October 2003, with Life Coach and Reiki Master, Kuumba Nia opened up another set of doors to her. Kuumba was able to understand and decipher Maxine’s ramblings on that first meeting and introduce her to the gentle, powerful energetic therapy of Reiki. Within 18 months, Maxine had completed both Reiki 1 and 2 together with ITEC Holistic Massage and had made the first steps into her new career as a Complementary Therapist.
Maxine has now been in practice for the last three years as a Massage and Reiki Practitioner, and has more recently become a Body Detox Practitioner.
She is an intuitive practitioner who works by feel, touch, and a sense of knowing. At times, she is able to feel, through her own body, the relief or discomfort clients maybe experiencing. She incorporates a variety of techniques ranging from stretches, superficial and deep tissue work, acupressure and most effectively, breathe. Working in this way, ensures that each treatment with Maxine is a unique and refreshing experience, with the needs of her client in the forefront of her mind.
